Behind every on-time shipment and accurately received delivery is a team member who keeps the details in check. This month, we’re recognizing Nick Draths, a valued part of our USA Shipping & Receiving team.
From verifying incoming materials to ensuring finished parts are packaged and dispatched correctly, Nick plays a critical role in maintaining the flow of products to and from our facility. His attention to detail helps protect product quality, while their reliability supports the schedules our customers depend on.
What does a typical day in the warehouse look like for you, and what parts of the job do you enjoy most?
We usually spend the first few hours in the morning picking the day’s orders, and once those have been double and triple checked for the right parts and right quantities we’ll bring the paperwork into the customer service team to close the orders and schedule truck pickups. After lunch we’ll wrap the orders scheduled to go out that day, making sure they get the appropriate labels and paperwork. Throughout the afternoon we’ll load the trucks as they arrive for pickup. By the time the last trucks come we’re ready to clean up the warehouse a bit, plug in the forklifts for the night, and close up shop.
I don’t know if I could pick a favorite part, but some of the truck drivers are pretty funny and the conversations with them can be a nice change of pace during the workday.
What skills or attention to detail are most important in your role?
Some parts have very similar part numbers, only differing by a single number or letter, so it’s important while picking orders to make sure you’re not mixing anything up. And that’s why we double and triple check each other’s orders. Mistakes are inevitably going to happen so it’s important to catch them early. Safety while operating the forklifts is also paramount, we want to make sure no one gets hurt and no product gets damaged.
What do you enjoy most about working with your teammates and CCTY?
I like the small company feel that CCTY has despite how big the actual company is. Since my first day everyone has treated me well and made me feel welcome, and the other guys in the warehouse are so easy to get along with and make the job a lot easier. Having cake whenever it’s someone’s birthday isn’t a bad bonus too.
When you see finished products ship out, what gives you the most pride about your work?
There’s so much that goes into a customer’s order before it even reaches us in the warehouse, so when an order goes out successfully it feels good to know that a team effort went into it, and happy customers keep our business going.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Sports have always been a big part of my life; I play hockey pretty much year-round still and then do some curling in the winter and play a fair amount of golf while the courses are open. Also love a good sci-fi book and anything Star Wars related.
