With six years of experience in logistics, Cody Wilson brings a combination of global logistics, proactive communication and customer-focused service to his role at CCTY. Since joining the team in April, he has quickly become a key player on the team that oversees customer orders and deliveries.
You’ve been with CCTY for five months. During this time, what has been the most enjoyable part of joining the team?
That we work as one team. Here, at CCTY, we are all aligned on the same goal – ensuring on-time deliveries and providing exceptional customer service.
Tell us a little about your background.
I’ve been in logistics since 2020. What started out as a portion of my job as a car dealership inventory manager became a six-year career in moving products. Chicago is a large transportation hub, so after the dealership, I decided to pursue logistics full-time with C.H. Robinson, a large freight forwarder that moves anything and everything under the sun.
It was in freight forwarding where I cut my teeth in logistics, joining an international export team moving cargo around the world. This opened my eyes to the complex supply chain that exists in every industry. With around 30-50 people touching an international shipment, managing this process as a forwarding agent was both challenging and rewarding; supply chains depend on every one of those people to successfully manage their portion to achieve on-time delivery.
Throughout my journey in freight forwarding, I graduated from transporting general cargo onto a team that solely moves temperature-controlled goods with another forwarder. The experience and perspectives gained have stayed with me throughout my career, and directly translate to my job at CCTY.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting a career in logistics and customer service, what would it be?
The two pillars of success in logistics are communication and organization. There are many moving parts in this line of work. You need to stay on top of the changes and communicate effectively to avoid mishaps. Being proactive with customers and keeping things organized will go a long way in maintaining control over the process. With that said, logistics is an exciting, rewarding, and flexible career for those who accept the challenge.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
My wife and I absolutely love being outdoors in nature. There are many very nice trails near CCTY and the surrounding area. I was incredibly excited to find my coworkers have hiked in many of the same forest preserves. Three of my favorites are Volo Bog State Park, Independence Grove and Lakewood Forest Preserve.
