Plastic polymers are becoming more common across a broad range of industries. Due to their high performance and cost effectiveness, they are found in uses ranging from coatings on kitchen cookware to insulating wiring for space shuttle computers.
POM (Polyoxymethylene) and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) are two of the most common polymers. Bushings and bearings use PTFE and POM to help with load capacity and lubrication.
These materials are:
- Very good insulators for electricity
- Not chemically reactive
- Work well in a broad temperature range, and
- Have an extremely low coefficient of friction making them ideal for moving applications.
The two chemicals are similar in many ways, but they do have distinct difference which make them ideal for different applications.
